About

Welcome.

I’m Renee, an artist, sewist, adventurer, archivist, and lifelong learner with a deep affection for the ocean, old traditions, and creating beautiful things by hand.
Creativity has surrounded me for as long as I can remember. I began sewing when I was perhaps three years old, encouraged by grandmothers who taught me the gentle arts of needlework, music, afternoon tea, and gracious living. My love of painting came from my mother, an avid painter and lover of the arts, while my brother nurtured my curiosity by introducing me to books, ideas, and the joy of learning.
Those early influences still find their way into everything I do.
ReneeOwens.com is my lighthearted, gentle corner of the internet: a personal journal where I sew, paint, embroider, draw, craft, read, garden, experiment, and play. It is where watercolor stains the table, sewing projects occasionally wander in unexpected directions, books gather faster than I can read them, and every project teaches me something new.
I don’t claim to know everything, and that is part of the fun.
This journal is not about perfection. It is a growing collection of creative experiments, honest discoveries, lessons learned, stories remembered, and the quiet pleasure of working with my hands. Sometimes a project turns out beautifully. Sometimes it becomes an entirely different adventure. Every piece belongs to the journey.
The Mermaid’s Satchel Project
One of the dreams closest to my heart is sharing creativity through The Mermaid’s Satchel Project. Donated and carefully gathered art supplies are assembled into free watercolor and drawing kits for aspiring artists who may not otherwise have the opportunity to begin.
Each collection is tucked inside a reusable satchel sewn here in my studio and shared in the hope that one small parcel of encouragement might open the door to a lifetime of creativity. As resources allow, I hope to continue expanding the project and helping more people discover the pleasure of creating.
Little Parcels of Possibility
I am also developing a collection of creative kits that will be offered for sale. These may include watercolor, drawing, embroidery, hand-sewing, and other small art and craft projects designed to make trying something new feel welcoming, playful, and achievable.
These kits will be separate from the free Mermaid’s Satchel Project. They will be part of my working studio and sold for profit, helping me continue creating, sharing this journal, and growing the resources available for future free satchels. In that way, purchasing a kit will not only begin a creative adventure of your own; it will also help me place art supplies into the hands of someone who needs a beginning.
This will never become simply a store. ReneeOwens.com will remain, first and foremost, my personal journal and drawing room: a place for stories, projects, experiments, resources, and the many lovely paths curiosity can take.
If you’ve found your way here, I hope you’ll stay awhile.
Pour a cup of tea, browse through my latest projects, follow along as I learn new techniques, and celebrate the beautiful imperfections that give handmade work its character. While this is my personal place to publish, you are warmly invited to join the conversations and share a link to your own creative little corner in the comments.
Whether you are an experienced artist, someone picking up a needle or paintbrush for the first time, or simply a person who enjoys beautiful and curious things, you are welcome to explore alongside me.
Every creative journey begins somewhere. Perhaps yours will begin here.
Warmly,
Renee Owens
