Affiliate & Sponsored Content Disclosure

Last Updated: September 8, 2026
ReneeOwens.com is the personal journal and creative atelier of Renee Owens. Through this website and its related social media and video channels, I share creative projects, art supplies, sewing materials, books, subscription boxes, independent artists, shops, services, and other resources that genuinely interest me.
Some content may include affiliate links, referral links, gifted products, review samples, prizes, sponsored material, complimentary access, or other relationships that could influence how a recommendation is perceived.
This Affiliate & Sponsored Content Disclosure explains those relationships and how they are identified.
My Commitment to Honest Opinions
The opinions, observations, and experiences shared through ReneeOwens.com are my own unless a different author or contributor is clearly identified.
Receiving a product, sample, prize, commission, referral credit, complimentary item, or other benefit does not guarantee positive coverage. I may like a product, dislike it, discover that it is not suitable for me, or change my opinion after gaining more experience with it.
I aim to describe my experience honestly and distinguish personal opinion from established fact. Your experience may differ according to your preferences, skill level, technique, materials, health considerations, expectations, or the version of the product you receive.
Affiliate Links
Some links on ReneeOwens.com may be affiliate links. If you follow one of these links and complete a qualifying purchase or other action, an affiliate may receive a commission or other benefit at no additional cost to you.
An affiliate link does not necessarily mean that the commission belongs to Renee Owens.
Affiliate links appearing in my content may benefit:
- Renee Owens
- An artist whose work or supplies are being featured
- A teacher or educational community
- A client, friend, or creative collaborator
- Another person or organization identified near the link
When an affiliate link benefits someone other than me, I will make a reasonable effort to identify that person or organization in the surrounding content.
For example, some art-supply links in older videos and descriptions may belong to Diann Zimmerman or Watercolor Beginners and Beyond. Purchases made through those links may benefit Diann rather than ReneeOwens.com.
Referral Links & Credits
Some links may be referral links rather than traditional commission-based affiliate links.
If you use a referral link, I may receive:
- Store or subscription credit
- A discount
- A free or reduced-cost product
- Points, rewards, or account benefits
- Another benefit described near the link
Referral links generally do not increase the price you pay unless the associated company expressly states otherwise.
One example is my SketchBox referral link. If you subscribe through that link, I may receive referral credit at no additional cost to you.
SketchBox Social Squad
I am a member of the SketchBox Social Squad and may create content featuring SketchBox subscriptions, SketchBox School projects, prizes, products, supplies, or other creative opportunities.
My relationship with SketchBox may include:
- Referral credit
- Social Squad participation
- Prizes or rewards
- Recognition or promotional opportunities
- Products or supplies received through a subscription or program
When I purchase a SketchBox or other item with my own money, I may state that it was personally purchased. When a product is awarded, gifted, provided, or received through another relationship, I will disclose that relationship where appropriate.
Participation in the SketchBox Social Squad does not guarantee a favorable review. My opinions and experiences remain my own.
Amazon Affiliate Links
Some content may include links to products sold through Amazon.
Amazon links may be associated with my own affiliate relationship or with the affiliate account of another artist, teacher, collaborator, or organization identified near the link.
When the relevant link belongs to another person, that person may earn from qualifying purchases. Renee Owens may not receive any commission from that transaction.
Amazon prices, availability, sellers, packaging, formulas, and product listings may change after a page, post, or video is published. An affiliate link does not guarantee that a product remains available, remains unchanged, or is offered at the price mentioned in older content.
Gifted Products & Review Samples
Artists, companies, publishers, friends, clients, teachers, or creative communities may occasionally send products or supplies without requiring payment.
These may include:
- Watercolor paints and sample dot cards
- Brushes and art tools
- Paper and sketchbooks
- Fabric, notions, and sewing supplies
- Books and instructional materials
- Handmade products
- Subscription or promotional packages
- Other creative materials
When a product was gifted or provided for review, I will make a reasonable effort to disclose that fact in the relevant article, video, description, caption, or other content.
A gifted product does not purchase a positive opinion, editorial control, or guaranteed coverage.
Products Received as Prizes
Some products may be received as prizes through creative challenges, completion rewards, giveaways, drawings, contests, or community programs.
When relevant, I will identify the product as a prize and name the person, company, or organization that awarded it.
Receiving a prize does not create an obligation to provide favorable coverage.
Paid Subscription Boxes & Membership Packages
Some products featured through ReneeOwens.com may have been received through a subscription, membership, or art-package tier that I or another person paid to join.
A product appearing in a subscription-box unboxing should not automatically be interpreted as a gift or sponsorship. When possible, the related content will explain whether the package was purchased, gifted, awarded, or otherwise provided.
Some archived videos feature discontinued subscription tiers or packages that are no longer available. The creator’s current website, membership, or Patreon may still be active even when the particular tier shown in an older video has ended.
Sponsored Content
ReneeOwens.com may occasionally publish content created in connection with a paid sponsorship or other compensated arrangement.
Sponsored content may involve:
- Monetary payment
- Complimentary products or services
- Paid travel or event access
- Subscription access
- Discounts or account credits
- Other material benefits
When content is sponsored or created as part of a material business relationship, that relationship will be disclosed clearly within or near the relevant content.
A sponsor may provide factual product information, campaign requirements, or requested topics, but I will not knowingly present a dishonest opinion as my own.
Independent Artists, Clients & Collaborators
I may feature or link to the work of artists, teachers, clients, friends, family members, creative communities, and other collaborators.
These relationships may be personal, professional, financial, or simply rooted in genuine admiration for the work being shared.
When a relationship could reasonably affect how a recommendation is understood, I will make a reasonable effort to explain it it.
A profile, interview, link, mention, or feature does not necessarily mean that I received payment. Many artists and creative resources are shared simply because I believe their work deserves to be seen.
Purchases Made With My Own Money
Many products featured through ReneeOwens.com are purchased with my own money.
When useful to the review, I may identify a product as personally purchased. A later affiliate link to the same or a similar product does not change the fact that the original item was purchased independently.
Historic purchase prices are included as part of the original experience and should not be treated as current pricing guarantees.
Complimentary Extras Included With Purchases
A supplier or artist may occasionally include samples, remnants, ribbons, papers, treats, or other complimentary extras with an order I purchased.
When practical, I will distinguish between the items I purchased and the additional materials included without charge.
An unexpected extra does not automatically create a sponsorship or paid endorsement.
Reviews & First Impressions
Some content represents a complete review after extended use. Other content may be labeled as an unboxing, demonstration, swatching session, experiment, or first impression.
A first impression is necessarily limited to the experience available at that time. My opinion may develop as I continue using the product.
Reviews may also concern an older version of a product. Manufacturers may later change formulas, materials, packaging, construction, suppliers, or quality-control practices.
I welcome companies to provide updated information or a newer sample for fair consideration, but I am not obligated to revise an honest account of my experience with the original product.
Negative Reviews & Non-Endorsement
The presence of a product link does not always mean that I recommend or endorse that product.
A link may be provided so viewers can identify the exact item being discussed, compare information, or find the product connected with an honest review.
If I or a featured collaborator does not endorse a product, the relevant content may state that clearly. The presence of an affiliate link does not override an expressed criticism or non-endorsement.
Disclosure Placement
Depending upon the format, disclosures may appear:
- Near the beginning of an article or review
- Near the product or affiliate link
- Within a video or its description
- In a social media caption
- Before or near a recommendation
- At checkout or on a product page
- Through clear labels such as “affiliate link,” “referral link,” “gifted,” “sponsored,” “prize,” “review sample,” “#ad,” or similar language
Because ReneeOwens.com includes older archived material, some earlier posts or videos may use different disclosure wording. Descriptions may be revised over time to improve clarity while preserving important links, credits, and historical context.
Cookies & Affiliate Tracking
Affiliate networks, retailers, referral programs, and external services may use cookies, tracking codes, or similar technologies to recognize that you followed a link from ReneeOwens.com.
These technologies are operated according to the policies of the applicable company or network.
Additional information is available in the Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy.
No Additional Cost
Affiliate and referral links generally do not add an additional charge to your purchase.
Your price, available discount, shipping cost, taxes, and other transaction terms are determined by the company or seller operating the destination website.
I cannot guarantee that an affiliate link always provides the lowest available price. Visitors are welcome to compare sellers, prices, policies, and purchasing options before making a decision.
External Sellers & Transactions
Purchases completed through Amazon, SketchBox, Etsy, an artist’s independent shop, Patreon, Ko-fi, or another external destination are transactions between you and the seller, platform, payment processor, or service handling the purchase.
ReneeOwens.com does not control an independent seller’s:
- Prices or availability
- Product descriptions or claims
- Payment processing
- Shipping and delivery
- Returns and refunds
- Warranties
- Privacy and security practices
- Customer service
Please review the seller’s terms and policies before completing a transaction.
Future Renee Owens Creative Kits & Products
ReneeOwens.com may eventually offer original painting, drawing, embroidery, sewing, and other creative kits for sale.
Revenue from these for-profit products may support the website, studio, future creative work, and the continued growth of The Mermaid’s Satchel Project.
Purchasing a creative kit is an ordinary commercial transaction and is not a tax-deductible charitable donation.
Recommendations involving my own products will be identified so visitors understand that I have a direct financial interest in those sales.
Voluntary Support
Visitors may also choose to support my work through Ko-fi or another service identified on the website.
Voluntary support may help cover website expenses, art and sewing supplies, filming costs, satchel materials, packaging, shipping, and other costs associated with my creative work and The Mermaid’s Satchel Project.
Unless expressly stated otherwise, Renee Owens and The Mermaid’s Satchel Project are not represented as a registered charitable organization. Voluntary support should not be assumed to qualify as a tax-deductible charitable donation.
Additional information is available in the Support & Contributions Disclosure.
Your Purchasing Decisions
You are never required to use an affiliate or referral link to enjoy ReneeOwens.com.
Please make purchasing decisions according to your own research, needs, budget, safety considerations, and judgment.
An affiliate link, recommendation, review, or mention is not a guarantee that a product or service will be appropriate for every person or project.
Changes to This Disclosure
This Affiliate & Sponsored Content Disclosure may be updated as the website introduces new affiliations, referral programs, partnerships, products, sponsorships, or other creative relationships.
The current version will remain available on this page with its latest revision date.
