Comments & Community Guidelines

Last Updated: September 8, 2026

Welcome to the conversations at ReneeOwens.com.

This is a lighthearted, gentle place to sew, paint, embroider, draw, craft, read, learn, remember, and play. Thoughtful comments can make those experiences even lovelier by adding encouragement, useful knowledge, personal stories, and new creative paths to explore.

These Comments & Community Guidelines explain how visitors may participate while helping this little corner of the internet remain welcoming, useful, and kind.

A Personal Journal With Room for Conversation

ReneeOwens.com is the personal journal and creative atelier of Renee Owens. It is not an open publishing platform, public message board, general advertising directory, or multivendor marketplace.

Visitors may not independently publish articles, product listings, announcements, or other posts unless they have been expressly invited to contribute.

You are warmly invited, however, to join conversations beneath published content when comments are available.

You May Share Your Creative Little Corner

If you have a creative website, journal, channel, gallery, group, shop, or other little corner of the internet, you are welcome to share a relevant link in the comments.

A welcome link might lead to:

  • Your personal art or sewing website
  • A blog post related to the subject being discussed
  • Your portfolio or gallery
  • Your YouTube or other creative channel
  • Your handmade shop or artist page
  • A finished project inspired by the discussion
  • A helpful tutorial, historical source, or educational resource
  • A creative community relevant to the conversation

Please include enough context for readers to understand where the link leads and why it relates to the discussion.

For example:

“I experimented with this stitch on a linen blouse and shared the finished project here: [link].”

A thoughtful introduction is much more welcome than an unexplained link.

Relevant Sharing, Not Link Dropping

Creative links are welcome. Spam is not.

Please do not:

  • Leave the same promotional message on multiple pages.
  • Post unrelated products, services, groups, or affiliate links.
  • Submit a comment whose only purpose is gaining traffic or search-engine visibility.
  • Use misleading wording to encourage visitors to click a link.
  • Post referral codes, fundraising requests, mailing-list promotions, or unsolicited advertisements without permission.
  • Disguise commercial promotion as a personal recommendation.
  • Use automated tools to submit comments.

Relevant links to your own creative work are encouraged. Repetitive, deceptive, excessive, or unrelated promotion may be removed.

Be Kind, Curious & Constructive

You do not need to agree with every opinion, technique, review, or creative choice shared here. Respectful disagreement and thoughtful discussion are welcome.

Please address ideas without attacking people.

Comments may be removed if they contain:

  • Personal attacks, insults, or harassment
  • Threats, intimidation, or encouragement of harm
  • Hate speech or degrading language
  • Discrimination based upon identity, disability, health, age, religion, origin, or another protected characteristic
  • Sexually explicit or deliberately shocking material
  • Persistent arguments intended to disrupt rather than discuss
  • Cruelty toward beginners or people learning a new skill
  • Mockery of someone’s body, health, ability, finances, materials, or creative work

You may offer constructive advice when it is relevant and respectfully expressed. Please remember that people arrive with different abilities, resources, experiences, and reasons for creating.

Creative Criticism

Not every photograph, painting, stitch, project, or experiment shared here is a request for critique.

Before offering detailed criticism of someone else’s work, consider whether critique was requested.

When feedback is invited:

  • Be specific and constructive.
  • Separate personal preference from technical information.
  • Acknowledge what is already working.
  • Offer suggestions without belittling the artist.
  • Respect the creator’s goals and chosen style.

“I would have done it differently” is not the same as “it was done incorrectly.”

Health, Safety & Professional Advice

Do not use the comments to diagnose another person, prescribe treatment, discourage appropriate medical care, or present speculation as established medical fact.

Please take particular care when discussing:

  • Allergies and material sensitivities
  • Skin or respiratory reactions
  • Medications and treatments
  • Mental health
  • Children’s health or development
  • Animal health
  • Potentially toxic plants, pigments, solvents, or materials
  • Tools and techniques capable of causing injury

You may share your own experience, but please identify it as personal experience rather than universal advice.

Dangerous instructions, fraudulent health claims, or advice likely to cause harm may be removed.

Accuracy & Misinformation

Creative conversation often includes memories, opinions, developing research, traditional knowledge, and differing interpretations. Honest mistakes are understandable.

Knowingly false, deceptive, dangerous, or impersonated content is not permitted.

If you correct a factual error, please do so courteously and include a reliable source when practical. Comments may be corrected, clarified, or removed when they create a meaningful risk of confusion or harm.

Privacy & Personal Information

Comments are public. Please do not post private or sensitive information about yourself or another person.

This includes:

  • Private email addresses
  • Telephone numbers
  • Home or mailing addresses
  • Passwords or account credentials
  • Payment or financial information
  • Government identification numbers
  • Private medical records
  • Personal information about a child
  • Private correspondence shared without permission

If you would like to contact me privately, please use the Contact page rather than placing personal information in a comment.

Additional information about comment data is available in the Privacy Policy.

Children & Young Artists

ReneeOwens.com is a general-audience website and is not directed toward children under the age of 13.

Children under 13 should not independently submit comments, links, photographs, artwork, account information, or other personal information.

A parent or legal guardian must communicate and submit information on behalf of a child under 13.

Please do not identify a child’s full name, school, location, contact information, daily routine, or other private details in a public comment.

Copyright & Creative Ownership

Only submit words, photographs, artwork, videos, links, or other material that you created or have permission to share.

Do not:

  • Copy another person’s article or comment.
  • Upload artwork or photographs without permission.
  • Present another creator’s project as your own.
  • Remove an artist’s signature, watermark, or credit.
  • Share unauthorized copies of patterns, books, classes, downloads, or subscription content.
  • Post links to pirated or unlawfully distributed material.

When discussing another creator’s work, provide clear credit and link to the original source whenever possible.

Additional information is available in the Copyright & Intellectual Property Policy.

Affiliate Links & Commercial Relationships

Please do not place affiliate links in comments without prior permission.

If you recommend a product, class, artist, shop, or service because you have a financial, employment, family, gifted-product, sponsorship, or other material relationship with it, clearly disclose that relationship.

Failure to disclose a relevant commercial relationship may result in removal of the comment or link.

Mermaid’s Satchel Requests

Please do not place Mermaid’s Satchel requests, shipping addresses, recipient details, access codes, or other private project information in public comments.

Satchel requests must be submitted through the designated request process when it becomes available.

Questions that require private information should be submitted through the Contact page.

Additional information is available in The Mermaid’s Satchel Project Guidelines.

Orders & Customer Service

Please do not publish order numbers, addresses, payment information, tracking numbers, or private customer-service correspondence in a comment.

Questions about an account, order, download, return, shipment, damaged item, or other private transaction should be submitted through the Contact page.

Moderation

Comments may be held for review before publication.

I reserve the right to:

  • Approve or decline a comment
  • Remove spam, unsafe links, or prohibited material
  • Close comments on an individual page or post
  • Correct obvious formatting problems
  • Remove private information for someone’s protection
  • Limit repeated or disruptive participation
  • Block accounts, addresses, or technical sources associated with abuse

Moderation decisions may consider the comment itself, its context, previous conduct, technical security information, and the needs of the website.

Publication is not guaranteed, and I am not required to provide advance notice or a public explanation for every moderation decision.

Editing Comments

I will not ordinarily alter a visitor’s meaning or rewrite a comment to express an opinion the visitor did not provide.

However, I may make limited changes when reasonably necessary to:

  • Repair broken formatting
  • Deactivate or remove an unsafe link
  • Remove accidentally published personal information
  • Protect a child’s privacy
  • Remove unlawful or infringing material
  • Add a brief moderation or disclosure note

When a problem cannot be addressed through a limited edit, the complete comment may be removed.

Comment Removal Requests

If you would like to request removal of a comment you submitted, please use the Contact page.

Include the name used for the comment, the page where it appears, the approximate date it was submitted, and enough information to help verify that the request comes from the original commenter.

Removal from ReneeOwens.com may not immediately remove copies retained in backups, search-engine caches, screenshots, or archives controlled by other parties.

No Obligation to Respond

I appreciate thoughtful comments, but I cannot promise to answer every question, visit every shared link, review every project, follow every account, or respond to every comment.

Leaving a comment or link does not create a professional, business, customer, advisory, or collaborative relationship.

Community Contributions Are Personal Views

Comments and links submitted by visitors reflect the views of their respective contributors. They do not necessarily represent the opinions of Renee Owens or ReneeOwens.com.

The appearance of a visitor link does not constitute verification, sponsorship, endorsement, or approval of the linked person, product, business, or website.

Please use your own judgment before following external links, providing personal information, or completing a transaction.

Changes to These Guidelines

These Comments & Community Guidelines may be updated as the website, its conversations, The Mermaid’s Satchel Project, accounts, creative kits, shop features, and other services evolve.

The current version will remain available on this page with its latest revision date.
