Welcome to ReneeOwens.com, the personal journal and creative atelier of Renee Owens.
This Copyright & Intellectual Property Policy explains the ownership and permitted use of writing, artwork, photography, videos, patterns, instructions, downloads, branding, and other creative materials published through this website.
Unless otherwise identified, original content created by Renee Owens and published through ReneeOwens.com is owned by Renee Owens and protected by applicable United States and international copyright, trademark, and intellectual-property laws.
Original Content Protected by Copyright
Protected original content may include:
- Articles, essays, journal entries, stories, and written commentary
- Original watercolor paintings, drawings, illustrations, and mixed-media artwork
- Photographs and curated photographic compositions
- Videos, livestream recordings, audio recordings, and edited presentations
- Tutorials, lessons, demonstrations, and educational materials
- Original sewing, embroidery, painting, drawing, and craft instructions
- Original patterns, templates, diagrams, worksheets, and charts
- Printable resources and digital downloads
- Creative-kit instructions, artwork, labels, packaging, and presentation materials
- The Mermaid’s Satchel Project materials and original presentation elements
- Website graphics, decorative elements, and original visual arrangements
- Logos, brand artwork, and other original identifying designs
- Newsletters, social media graphics, captions, and promotional materials
- Other original creative work fixed in a tangible form
Copyright protection applies to the original expression contained in these works. Public availability does not place the work in the public domain or grant unrestricted permission to copy, reproduce, modify, distribute, or sell it.
Ideas, Techniques, Facts & Methods
Copyright generally protects original expression rather than an underlying idea, fact, process, system, style, or method of operation.
For example, Renee Owens does not claim exclusive ownership over:
- The general idea of painting a particular subject
- A traditional stitch, sewing technique, or construction method
- A commonly known watercolor technique
- Historical facts or public-domain information
- A general garment type, craft concept, or artistic style
- Standard measurements, formulas, or functional procedures
However, my original photographs, illustrations, written explanations, videos, diagrams, arrangements, pattern pieces, project instructions, and other specific expressions of those ideas may be protected.
Personal Use
You are welcome to:
- Read and enjoy publicly available content.
- Watch and share links to my videos.
- Share direct links to articles, projects, and pages.
- Quote a brief excerpt for commentary or discussion with clear credit and a direct link to the original source.
- Create a personal project while following a freely published tutorial, subject to any restrictions stated with that project.
- Print a resource for your own personal use when the resource expressly permits printing.
I appreciate thoughtful sharing that helps others discover my work while preserving the original context and directing visitors back to ReneeOwens.com.
Permission Is Required
Please obtain written permission before:
- Republishing a complete article or a substantial portion of one
- Reproducing or uploading my artwork or photographs
- Reposting complete videos or substantial video excerpts
- Copying tutorials, patterns, diagrams, worksheets, or project instructions
- Distributing printable resources or digital downloads
- Using my graphics, logos, branding, or decorative artwork
- Creating derivative commercial products based upon protected material
- Teaching from, repackaging, or selling my instructional materials
- Including my work in a course, book, website, newsletter, database, product, or commercial presentation
- Manufacturing or selling kits based upon my protected instructions, patterns, or presentation materials
- Using my content for advertising, merchandise, fundraising, or other promotional purposes
- Using my work in ways that imply endorsement, affiliation, sponsorship, or approval
Permission is not granted merely because content is publicly accessible, easily downloaded, shared on social media, or displayed without a visible watermark.
Social Media Sharing
You are welcome to share an ordinary link to an original article, page, post, or video.
When platform features permit, you may also use an official share button that preserves the original source, caption, account, and link.
Please do not:
- Download and re-upload my photographs, artwork, graphics, or videos

- Use my work to advertise an unrelated product, service, page, group, or account
If you would like to share more than a link or brief attributed excerpt, please request permission first.
Patterns, Tutorials & Finished Projects
Unless a specific pattern, tutorial, or product states otherwise, free project instructions shared through ReneeOwens.com are provided for personal, noncommercial use.
You may use general skills and techniques you learn to create your own personal projects. You may not copy, distribute, republish, translate, sell, or teach from my protected pattern pieces, written instructions, illustrations, photographs, diagrams, videos, or downloadable files without permission.
Whether finished items created from an original pattern may be sold will depend upon the license supplied with that particular pattern. If no commercial-use permission is stated, please request written permission before selling items specifically created from the pattern.
Patterns or source materials belonging to another designer remain governed by that creator’s license and terms.
Digital Products & Downloads
Purchasing or downloading a digital product does not transfer copyright ownership.
Unless a listing expressly provides a different license, digital products are licensed to one purchaser for personal use only.
Digital files may not be:
- Shared with friends, family members, groups, students, or other accounts
- Uploaded to cloud folders or file-sharing services for access by others
- Reproduced for resale or redistribution
- Modified and presented as a new or original product
- Included in another pattern, course, kit, book, download, or membership
- Used to create competing educational or commercial materials
- Converted into another format for distribution
Additional terms are available in the Digital Products & Download Terms.
Creative Kits & The Mermaid’s Satchel Project
Creative kits sold through ReneeOwens.com and free materials distributed through The Mermaid’s Satchel Project may include original instructions, artwork, labels, templates, packaging, project cards, and other protected materials.
Receiving or purchasing a kit or satchel grants permission to use the included materials for their intended personal creative purpose. It does not transfer ownership of the related copyright, branding, design, or instructional content.
Recipients may not duplicate complete kits, copy and distribute instructions, reproduce branded materials, or sell substantially identical packages based upon my protected presentation and content without written permission.
Artists remain free to use general creative skills learned through a project in their own original work, subject to any separate license or product-specific restriction.
Commercial Use
No commercial-use license is granted unless it is expressly provided in writing or included with a specific product.
Commercial use may include:
- Selling copies, adaptations, or derivative products
- Using content within paid classes or memberships
- Reproducing materials for clients, customers, or students
- Using artwork or graphics on merchandise
- Using content in advertisements or sponsored campaigns
- Using materials to promote a business, organization, fundraiser, or commercial account
- Packaging protected instructions or designs with products for sale
Please contact me before beginning any commercial use.
Educational, Charitable & Collaborative Requests
I welcome thoughtful requests from educators, libraries, charitable projects, artists, creative communities, and potential collaborators.
Educational or charitable intent does not automatically create permission to reproduce protected work. However, many requests may be accommodated through a written license, limited permission, attribution requirements, or another mutually agreeable arrangement.
Please explain what you would like to use, how it will be presented, where it will appear, who will receive it, whether money is involved, and how Renee Owens will be credited.
Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning
Except where applicable law expressly provides otherwise, no permission is granted to use content from ReneeOwens.com for the development, training, fine-tuning, testing, grounding, retrieval, evaluation, or commercial operation of artificial-intelligence or machine-learning systems.
Without prior written permission, you may not systematically copy, scrape, harvest, download, reproduce, store, label, distribute, or incorporate my original content into:
- Artificial-intelligence training datasets
- Machine-learning models
- Generative image, video, audio, or text systems
- Style-replication systems
- Commercial retrieval or knowledge databases
- Synthetic-data collections
- Automated content-generation services
This restriction applies to original writing, artwork, photographs, graphics, videos, audio, patterns, instructions, downloads, branding, and other protected materials.
Ordinary search-engine indexing that directs visitors to the original website is not prohibited by this section, provided it respects applicable technical controls and does not republish or commercially exploit substantial portions of the content.
Removal of Rights Information
You may not knowingly remove, conceal, crop, alter, or falsify:
- Copyright notices
- Watermarks
- Artist signatures
- Creator credits
- Source links
- Licensing information
- Metadata identifying the creator or rights holder
Removing identifying information does not remove the creator’s rights or make the material free to use.
Third-Party Materials
ReneeOwens.com may discuss, display, quote, link to, or embed material belonging to artists, authors, teachers, photographers, designers, manufacturers, publishers, companies, and other creators.
Third-party artwork, photographs, videos, product images, trademarks, patterns, and other materials remain the property of their respective rights holders.
The appearance of third-party material does not transfer ownership to Renee Owens and does not authorize visitors to copy or reuse it.
Some material may be used with permission, under license, as an authorized embed, from the public domain, or for commentary, criticism, education, reporting, identification, or another legally recognized purpose.
Visitor Comments & Submitted Materials
Visitors retain ownership of original comments, photographs, artwork, testimonials, stories, and other creative material they submit.
By voluntarily submitting material for public display through ReneeOwens.com, you grant Renee Owens a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, format, display, and distribute that material as reasonably necessary to operate and promote the page, discussion, project, or feature for which it was submitted.
This license does not transfer ownership of your work and does not authorize unrelated resale of your original artwork.
You represent that:
- You created the submitted material or have permission to submit it.
- The material does not infringe another person’s copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity, or other rights.
- You have permission from identifiable people appearing in submitted photographs where permission is required.
- The material complies with the Comments & Community Guidelines.
Submitted material may be removed when ownership is disputed, permission cannot be established, or the material violates website policies.
Public-Domain & Historical Materials
Because ReneeOwens.com explores history, sewing, art, books, and traditional creative practices, some content may incorporate or discuss public-domain works and historical materials.
A historical source may be in the public domain while my new transcription, commentary, photographs, restoration, arrangement, illustrations, annotations, or other original additions remain protected to the extent allowed by law.
Please evaluate the rights associated with the underlying source separately from the rights associated with my original contribution.
Trademarks & Brand Identity
Names, logos, slogans, graphics, product identities, and other source-identifying elements associated with Renee Owens, ReneeOwens.com, The Mermaid’s Satchel Project, and future creative products may be protected by trademark, unfair-competition, or related laws.
No permission is granted to use these elements in a manner likely to create confusion about ownership, sponsorship, affiliation, endorsement, or the source of goods and services.
Company names, artist names, product names, service names, and third-party logos mentioned on this website remain the property of their respective owners.
References to third-party brands are generally made for identification, commentary, education, comparison, or review and do not imply endorsement by or affiliation with the rights holder unless specifically stated.
Fair Use & Other Legal Rights
Nothing in this policy is intended to prevent lawful fair use, public-domain use, or another use expressly permitted by applicable law.
Fair use is determined according to the facts and circumstances of a particular situation. Simply providing credit, using material for a nonprofit purpose, changing part of a work, or finding material online does not automatically establish fair use.
If you are uncertain whether your intended use requires permission, you should obtain appropriate legal advice or request permission before using the material.

If you believe material appearing on ReneeOwens.com infringes your copyright or other intellectual-property rights, please send a detailed written notice to contact@reneeowens.com.

I will review complete, good-faith reports and take appropriate action when warranted. Material may be temporarily restricted or removed while a legitimate claim is investigated.
Submitting a knowingly false or misleading infringement report may have legal consequences.
Responses to Removal
If material you submitted is removed because of an infringement report and you believe the removal resulted from a mistake or misidentification, you may contact me with an explanation and supporting information.
Restoration is not guaranteed. I may require additional documentation or decline to restore disputed material while ownership or authorization remains unclear.
