Privacy Policy

Last Updated: September 8, 2026

Welcome to ReneeOwens.com, the personal journal and creative atelier of Renee Owens.

Your privacy is important to me. This Privacy Policy explains what information may be collected when you visit or interact with this website, why that information may be used, when it may be shared with service providers, and what choices may be available to you.

This policy applies to ReneeOwens.com and the features operated directly through this website. Independent websites and services linked from ReneeOwens.com have their own privacy practices and policies.

Information You Choose to Provide

You may voluntarily provide personal information when you:

  • Contact me through a form or by email
  • Leave a comment or reply
  • Subscribe to a newsletter or email update, if offered
  • Create or use a website account
  • Place an order or purchase a future physical or digital product
  • Request or receive a Mermaid’s Satchel
  • Contribute supplies or voluntarily support my creative work
  • Participate in a giveaway, survey, project, or other optional activity
  • Request customer service or assistance

Depending upon the activity, this information may include:

  • Your name or chosen display name
  • Email address
  • Mailing or shipping address
  • Billing information
  • Telephone number, when reasonably necessary
  • Account username and password
  • Order, transaction, or customer-service information
  • Comments, messages, requests, and other information you submit
  • Information reasonably necessary to review or fulfill a Mermaid’s Satchel request
  • Your consent, preferences, or communication choices

You are not required to provide personal information merely to browse the public portions of ReneeOwens.com.

Please do not submit sensitive personal information that has not been specifically requested and is not reasonably necessary for the service you are using.

The Mermaid’s Satchel Project

If you request a Mermaid’s Satchel, information may be collected to evaluate the request, communicate with you, prevent duplicate or fraudulent requests, select appropriate supplies, and arrange delivery.

This may include your name, email address, shipping address, general information about the intended recipient, artistic interests, requested materials, age range, accessibility considerations you voluntarily choose to share, and other information reasonably necessary to prepare the satchel.

I will not intentionally request medical records, government identification numbers, financial-account credentials, or other highly sensitive records as part of an ordinary satchel request.

Information submitted through The Mermaid’s Satchel Project will not be publicly displayed unless you provide separate permission for a testimonial, photograph, artwork, or story to be shared.

Additional information about requests, selection, availability, delivery, and recipient responsibilities is available in The Mermaid’s Satchel Project Guidelines.

Accounts, Orders & Purchases

If account or shopping features are introduced, information may be collected to:

  • Create and maintain your account
  • Authenticate your login
  • Process and fulfill an order
  • Calculate shipping or applicable taxes
  • Deliver physical or digital products
  • Provide order confirmations and service messages
  • Respond to questions, returns, refunds, or disputes
  • Maintain financial, tax, and business records
  • Detect fraud, abuse, and unauthorized activity

Payments may be processed by an independent payment provider such as PayPal, Stripe, or another service identified during checkout. Payment-card and financial-account information is submitted to and processed by that provider according to its own privacy policy and security practices.

ReneeOwens.com may receive and retain limited transaction information, such as your name, contact information, billing or shipping address, items ordered, transaction identifier, payment status, and amount paid. The website does not intentionally store complete payment-card numbers or payment-account passwords.

Comments

When comments are enabled and you leave a comment, the website may collect the information entered into the comment form, along with your IP address and browser information. This information may be used to display your comment, recognize returning commenters, prevent spam, moderate discussions, and protect the website from abuse.

Your chosen display name, comment, website link, and profile image may be publicly visible. Your email address will not ordinarily be displayed publicly.

If an avatar service is enabled, an anonymized value created from your email address may be provided to that service to determine whether you have an associated profile image.

Comments may be examined through automated spam-detection or website-security services.

Please remember that anything you knowingly publish in a public comment can be read, copied, or shared by other people. Do not include private contact information, mailing addresses, financial information, or other sensitive details in a comment.

Visitors may share relevant links to their own creative websites, journals, channels, shops, or other creative spaces when permitted by the Comments & Community Guidelines.

Contact Forms & Email

When you contact me, I may retain your name, email address, message, attachments, and related correspondence for as long as reasonably necessary to respond, provide assistance, maintain appropriate business records, resolve disputes, or protect the website and its visitors.

Your email address will not be added to a marketing list merely because you sent a question or requested assistance.

Please do not send passwords, payment credentials, government identification numbers, medical records, or other highly sensitive information through ordinary email or a general contact form.

Newsletters & Marketing Communications

If a newsletter or promotional email service is offered, you will be asked to subscribe voluntarily. Subscription information may be processed by an email-delivery provider in order to manage the mailing list and deliver messages.

Marketing emails will include an unsubscribe method where required. You may unsubscribe at any time, although you may continue to receive essential messages concerning an account, order, request, transaction, or service you initiated.

I do not sell or rent newsletter subscriber lists.

Additional information is available in the Cookie Policy.

Analytics

ReneeOwens.com may use analytics or visitor-statistics services to understand how the website is discovered and used.

Analytics information may include IP-derived location information, browser and device details, pages viewed, approximate session duration, referral sources, and interactions with the website. Depending upon the service and its configuration, analytics information may involve cookies or similar identifiers.

Analytics information is used to evaluate general website activity, improve content and navigation, identify technical problems, and understand which projects and resources are useful to visitors.

Embedded Content

Articles and pages may include embedded or linked content from independent services, including:

  • YouTube
  • Facebook
  • Instagram
  • Pinterest

ReneeOwens.com does not control the privacy practices of independent websites. Please review their policies before providing personal information or interacting with their services.

Affiliate & Referral Links

Some pages, posts, and videos may include affiliate or referral links. When you follow one of these links, the associated company or service may use cookies, referral codes, or similar technology to identify qualifying visits, subscriptions, or purchases.

Renee may receive a commission, account credit, product, reward, or other benefit from qualifying activity at no additional cost to you.

Some links may benefit a featured artist, teacher, collaborator, or creative community rather than Renee. Where applicable, the intended recipient of the affiliate benefit will be identified.

More information is available in the Affiliate & Sponsored Content Disclosure.

Voluntary Support & External Services

Visitors may choose to support my work through an independent service such as Ko-fi or another platform identified on the website.

When you use an external support or membership service, your information and payment are processed according to that service’s own privacy policy and terms. ReneeOwens.com may receive limited information concerning the transaction, such as your name, username, email address, message, support amount, or transaction status.

Unless expressly stated otherwise, voluntary support is not represented as a tax-deductible charitable donation.

  • Respond to questions and correspondence
  • Manage accounts and authenticate users
  • Review and fulfill Mermaid’s Satchel requests

How Information May Be Shared

I do not sell or rent personal information.

Information may be shared only when reasonably necessary with service providers that help operate the website or provide a requested service. These may include:

  • Website hosting and content-management providers
  • Security, backup, spam-prevention, and maintenance services
  • Analytics and website-performance providers
  • Email and newsletter services
  • Payment processors and ecommerce providers
  • Shipping and delivery services
  • Cloud storage or business-record services
  • Professional advisers when reasonably necessary

Information may also be disclosed when reasonably believed necessary to comply with law, respond to a valid legal request, investigate fraud or misuse, enforce website policies, protect legal rights, or safeguard visitors and the public.

If the website or related business is reorganized, sold, transferred, or merged, relevant records may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to applicable law.

Data Retention

Personal information is retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, to provide requested services, maintain appropriate records, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, protect the website, and satisfy legal, accounting, or tax obligations.

Different records may be retained for different periods. For example:

  • Public comments may remain for as long as the related content remains published.
  • Contact correspondence may be retained while a matter remains active and for a reasonable period afterward.
  • Account information may be retained while the account remains active.
  • Order and transaction records may be retained as required for business, tax, fraud-prevention, and legal purposes.
  • Mermaid’s Satchel request and fulfillment records may be retained as needed to administer the project, prevent misuse, and document distribution.
  • Security logs and backups may be retained for limited operational and security periods.

Information may remain temporarily in routine backups after it has been removed from the active website.

Data Security

Reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures are used to protect the website and the information entrusted to it. These measures may include secure hosting, encrypted connections, access controls, software updates, backups, malware monitoring, login protection, and security logging.

No website, database, email system, or method of electronic transmission can be guaranteed completely secure. Please use care when deciding what information to send online.

Your Privacy Choices & Requests

Depending upon where you live and the circumstances of your request, you may have the ability to:

  • Ask what personal information is held about you
  • Request a copy of information you provided
  • Ask that inaccurate information be corrected
  • Request deletion or anonymization of eligible information
  • Withdraw consent where processing depends upon consent
  • Unsubscribe from marketing emails
  • Request removal of a comment you submitted
  • Disable or delete cookies through your browser

Certain information may need to be retained when required for legal, security, fraud-prevention, transaction, accounting, or recordkeeping purposes. Removing public content may not immediately remove copies stored in routine backups, search-engine caches, or archives controlled by other parties.

Before fulfilling a privacy request, I may need to verify that you are the person associated with the information.

Privacy requests may be sent to contact@reneeowens.com.

Children’s Privacy

ReneeOwens.com is a general-audience website and is not directed toward children under the age of 13.

I do not knowingly collect personal information online directly from children under 13 without the involvement and legally required consent of a parent or guardian.

Because creative articles, kits, and The Mermaid’s Satchel Project may interest young artists, a parent or legal guardian must submit requests, create accounts, make purchases, provide shipping information, and communicate on behalf of a child under 13.

Children under 13 should not independently submit comments, forms, account registrations, mailing addresses, photographs, artwork containing identifying information, or other personal information through this website.

If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information without appropriate parental or guardian involvement, please contact contact@reneeowens.com so the situation can be reviewed and the information removed where appropriate.

Visitors Outside the United States

ReneeOwens.com is operated from the United States. If you visit from another country, your information may be processed or stored in the United States or in other locations where website service providers operate.

Privacy rights vary by location. Where applicable law grants additional rights, reasonable requests will be reviewed and addressed accordingly.

Do Not Track & Browser Controls

Some browsers offer a “Do Not Track” setting or other privacy controls. Because there is not one universally applied response to every browser signal, the website may not respond uniformly to all such settings.

You may still use browser controls, cookie settings, content blockers, and available consent tools to manage certain forms of tracking or stored information.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy may be revised as ReneeOwens.com introduces new features, accounts, forms, newsletters, shop services, payment providers, creative kits, or changes to The Mermaid’s Satchel Project.

The revised policy will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. Material changes may also be communicated through the website when appropriate.
